Before pursuing higher education, I established a successful career as a Pharmacy Technician, where I excelled in various pharmacy settings. Throughout my career, I have significantly improved workflow efficiencies and gained valuable insight into pharmacy information systems and the complexities of the healthcare landscape. In December 2022, I graduated with an Associate degree in Computer Science from Virginia Peninsula Community College. Throughout my studies at VPCC, I developed strong technical skills and an interest in the application of technology in healthcare. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Health Services Administration at Old Dominion University (ODU), furthering my knowledge of healthcare systems and management. My extensive background in pharmacy and passion for computer science has led me to pursue a career as an Electronic Health Record Analyst or Healthcare Project Manager post-graduation. I am eager to leverage my hands-on experience and academic insights to innovate and improve healthcare delivery systems.
About Me
Experience as a CPhT
From Retail to Hospital to Specialty
In my career as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), I have worked in various settings and honed essential skills such as communication, task prioritization, critical thinking, and leadership. I have learned each role in pharmacy with enthusiasm and an eagerness to understand the bigger picture of healthcare and how technology can enhance and improve work processes and patient safety. I have gained essential insight to the nuances of insurance coverage, accreditation standards, workflow redesign, and the impact of legislation on healthcare systems.
Specialty Pharmacy
As a Specialty Pharmacy Technician, I participated in three NCODA conferences as an Oncology Pharmacy Technician Association (OPTA) member. This forum allowed me to share knowledge with other technicians in my industry, expand my network, and learn how other health systems are helping oncology patients. This community enabled communication and collaboration with other technicians. I had the honor of leading a panel discussion about patient assistance and shared insights to the application processes and tips and tricks of obtaining free drug and financial assistance for patients.
College Experience
Growing Knowledge
Throughout my college experience, I have gained essential knowledge about public health and the healthcare system from different viewpoints. I have learned about how the social determinants of health impact patient outcomes and their ability to receive the best possible care. In Public Health Informatics I learned about the impact of technology on healthcare workflows, clinical outcomes, and patient safety. Additionally, in my LeADERS courses I have gained experience in management, leadership, diversity, and hands-on experience through an academic internship.
